i just read a statistic from the UN stating that there have only been 16 kidnappings in Haiti this year, as opposed to 80+ in november alone last year. regardless of your opinion on the UN’s presence in Haiti, that is an impressive number. the tragedy is that i read that statistic in a story about a seven year old boy being murdered because his parents couldn’t afford the $680 ransom.
