from the New York Times today is an article about how fertilizer has helped Malawi deliver itself from famine. there are some people that claim this is a bad idea. read it here. there are some things in this world that defy any sense of compassion. that one could say it is a bad idea to subsidize fertilizer and seed so that a nation on the brink of famine can feed itself, because in doing so those subsidies hurts the sale of commercial fertilizer companies is absolutely barbaric, ignorant and incredibly shortsighted. global economies need global consumers. future profits depend on the survival of those consumers.
