were they wrong or what?

i stumbled upon this article in the new york times archives today.

some of my favorite lines (keep in mind that this story is from last february):
“President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers said the economy was poised to keep growing at a solid 3 percent a year”

“I would say right now that we’re pretty close to hitting it right on the head,” - Edward P. Lazear, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers
“It (the report) cited studies, which it did not identify”

click here for another great read. this one is on the bang up job our current administration is doing in “the war on terror”.

our president. the standup, the salesman.

our 43rd president spoke at the National Association of Religious Boradcasters last week. while it’s mildly entertaining to listen to him struggle through difficult words like “humanity” and “Rwanda”, it is absolutely stunning to see him once again turn the topic at hand (1st Amendment Rights) into a stump speech for the war in Iraq.

for anyone who cares, dr. james dobson’s blind support for this man is one of the principle reasons i think dobson is an evil lying hypocrite.

i could use a tax break

i just recently did my taxes. it turns out that with what i owe to uncle sam and his state and local affiliates, i could buy a new laptop. it’s not that i’m in the market for a new laptop. i like the one i have just fine. and it’s not that i’m opposed to paying taxes. i am however self-employed, and as such i have to file and pay my own taxes. no automatic deductions. no shitty rebate every year that makes me feel like my government is working for me. just the sinking feeling of despair every april when i realize that i didn’t really do as well as i thought i did the previous year.
